NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS
Please be advised that for the past few months at Bangkok airport (and possibly others as well), when departing from Thailand (i.e., exiting the country), it is possible that no customs stamp will be placed in your passport. This is because there is an option to go through "automatic machines" that scan your passport, allowing you to proceed to the boarding area without receiving any stamp. We strongly recommend that you do NOT use this procedure, as the absence of an exit stamp can cause various problems. Always go through the line where there is a customs officer, even when you are leaving the country, so that the exit stamp is properly placed in your passport.
The reason is very simple: there are many cases where it is necessary to know exactly how many days you have spent in Thailand within a certain period, or during the entire calendar year. For example, for those who need to pay taxes, for tax exemption procedures, for insurance purposes, and other such matters. In all these cases, if someone does not have the exit stamps (in addition to the entry stamps), it becomes extremely difficult to make this calculation. You may then be forced to go to the immigration office to try to obtain a document confirming your entries and exits—assuming they are even willing or able to provide it. And let’s be honest: nobody wants to make unnecessary trips to immigration. So, never use the automatic machines—always go to the counter where the customs officer is present and can stamp your passport.
